Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens, central London

Built in the second half of the seventeenth century, Kensington Palace has been home to Princess Diana, Will and Kate and other members of the Royal Family. Although it is a magnificent building, the Guide to the Architecture of London quotes architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner as saying: "Never did any monarch of the age...build a less ostentatious palace."

Albert Bridge at Dusk, Central London

Built in the 1870s, Albert Bridge is one of London's most distinguished and elegant river crossings. It connects upmarket Chelsea with slightly less upmarket Battersea.

Bonfire Night at Dulwich Park Sports Club, south London

A blazing bonfire gives way to fireworks at Dulwich Sports Club's annual bonfire night celebration. For a five pound entry fee, you get to watch a large stack of pallets go up in flames, followed by a fair firework display. You can also buy beer, burgers, hotdogs, mulled wine and fish and chips from local stalwart Olley's.
